CHICKEN BIG KING BURGUER

Burger King revived their Big King recently, and even gave it a more recent upgrade of larger beef patties. Now
Burger King is continuing to push the “Big Mac” formula with a new Chicken Big King. The Chicken Big King takes the same Big King formula of three buns, lettuce, onions, pickles, American cheese, and a secret sauce, and swaps the fire-grilled beef patties for breaded chicken patties.

Price: $3.99
I found the Big King burger to be an adamant attempt at a Big Mac clone. In many ways, I found it to be superior to the Big Mac, but I’d probably rank them about equal with each other overall. When I heard that Burger King was releasing a chicken version of their Big King, I wasn’t quite sure what to think. I have never seen a chicken sandwich done in this format, and I didn’t think Burger King would be the first big fast food chain to pull it off successfully.
I had a bad feeling about the Chicken Big King when I saw how much sauce I could see on the inside of the wrapper before opening it. This had to be one of the most sloppily constructed items I’ve ever ordered from my local Burger King. Now this may not be a good indicator of quality across the spectrum of BK restaurants, but I’ve had both good and bad experiences at the Burger King I purchased this sandwich at.

So simply picking this thing up was a mess from the get go, but it only got worse as I began to eat the sandwich. I began to wonder if I should have just broken out the knife and fork.
The flavor of the Chicken Big King wasn’t enough to save it. I knew that two overly salty processed chicken patties in a Big Mac format wouldn’t be a stellar combination, especially since I’m not a fan of Burger King’s chicken patties (the chicken on their Tendercrisp is pretty good though). This thing was only a small step up from cafeteria food in terms of flavor. The sauce was pretty good, but it didn’t do any favors for the chicken patties. The sauce and chicken are so overpowering that the flavor of any produce was impossible to detect. The produce was basically only there for texture and small amounts of nutritional value.
The Chicken Big King was edible, but it wasn’t enjoyable. I’ve ordered the Big King a few times since I reviewed it, but this I would never order again, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, especially at the ridiculous price for what I’d basically consider a value menu sandwich if it didn’t have a middle bun. Burger King really missed the mark here, and I can only hope that other Burger King restaurants can at least get the construction of the sandwich right. Maybe I’d give this sandwich another shot (at a different BK restaurant) if they came out with a spicy chicken version.
Pros: The chicken patties were okay as far as processed patties go, the sauce was good
Cons: A complete mess of a sandwich, the produce seemed to be there mostly for texture, definitely inferior to the Big King featuring beef patties, way overpriced for what it is.
